Evening Training 2024

This spring and summer you can train and test your dog on the prestigious and purpose build Rickneys Dog Training Ground in Bengeo, hosted by the Herts, Beds and Buck branch. 

Several classes run in parallel, with handlers and dogs grouped into appropriate levels for Spaniel and Retriever. We welcome new handlers. Dogs require at least basic obedience: walk to heal, sit and stay and must be at least 6 months to attend.

Costs are £10 per session. No booking required, just show up. Enjoy some tea, coffee, cake and a chat after the class!

Times: 18:00 for 18:30 and usually continues for about 2 hours light permitting.

From the A10 take the Ware exit. Head towards Stevenage on the A602. Take the first exit at the roundabout towards Hertford on the B158. The entrance is half a mile on your left, directly after the ‘Crouchfield’ sign.

From the A414 take the B158 at Hertford towards Bengeo. Over a small roundabout and entrance is after 0.5 mile on the right.

Laura Hill Training Day 17 July 2024

Laura Hill of Stauntonvale Gundogs is running a training day at Rickneys Dog Training Ground, Bengeo. The format for the day will be 6 handlers with dogs per session.

Novice Dogs in the morning from 9am, Open Dogs in the afternoon from 1pm.

A few spaces have opened up for this exciting opportunity.

Laura Hill is founder of the Stauntonvale affix. She is an A Panel retriever field trial Judge and has competed, judged and trained throughout the UK and Europe. Laura made up her first Labrador field trial champion in 2009 and since then has qualified for the IGL Retriever Championship numerous times and to date has made up 7 Labrador Field Trial Champions (5 of which are home bred). She has also been a member of the England gundog team taking part in the international working test events.

Laura is the author of Advanced Retriever Training. Laura trains her own dogs using positive reward- based methods. She specialises in retriever breeds. Her approach is very much one of understanding the dog and the learning process. Using her years of experience from competing and extensive knowledge of learning theory, Laura has the ability to analyse the partnership you have with your dog and break down the component parts of successful retriever work. Her aim is to make training enjoyable and beneficial at every level – beginner right through to advanced. Students usually get honesty, inspiration and some homework! www.stauntonvalegundogs.co.uk
